Inquiries, Inquests and Investigations

Our market-leading team is ready to provide all aspects of advice, support and guidance to you and your organisation relating to inquiries, inquests and investigations. Being involved in any form of significant or high-profile inquiry or investigation can be unfamiliar and daunting. Our substantial experience means we have most likely encountered the difficulties you are facing before. We are here to help you at every stage of the process.

How?

We pride ourselves on providing a flexible resource to our clients. Where it is important for senior executives and the client's internal legal function to carry on with day-to-day work, we can provide partner-led teams to direct and manage the client's response to the inquiry or inquest or advise on the investigation. We can also embed our lawyers within in-house teams to bolster resource and provide our specialist advice. Where additional resourcing is required, the team can utilise Fieldfisher's Condor Alternative Legal Solutions platform to rapidly scale-up capacity.

Notable highlights:

•We are instructed as solicitors to the following significant inquiries or inquests: the UK Covid-19 Inquiry; the Omagh Bombing Inquiry; the Dawn Sturgess Inquiry; the David Fuller Inquiry; and the Jalal Uddin Inquiry. We are also advising on the set-up phase of the Thirlwall Inquiry, investigating the events which took place at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

•We are advising Post Office Limited in connection with the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry.

•We are advising two core participants in relation to their engagement with the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.

•We provide ongoing investigations advice to a global social media company.

•Previous inquests and inquiries in which we have been instructed include: the Manchester Arena Inquiry; the Brook House Inquiry; the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse; the Inquests of Anthony Walgate, Gabriel Kovari, Daniel Whitworth and Jack Taylor, each of whom was murdered by Stephen Port; the inquest into the deaths of Diana Princess of Wales and Dodi Al-Fayed; the 7/7 London Bombings; the Inquiry into the death of Alexander Litvinenko and the Hillsborough Inquests.

•The team also advised Lord Dyson on the running of his investigation into how BBC Panorama came to interview Diana, Princess of Wales.

Fieldfisher's expertise in this area has also been recognised by both Chambers and Partners (ranked Band 1 for 2024 (Public Inquiries)) and the Legal 500 (ranked Tier 1 for UK Solicitors 2024 (Administrative and Public Law)).
