We are aware that fraudsters may
pose as someone from Fieldfisher in order to trick you into giving them money
or your personal information by: -
- Sending a scam email from an email address very similar to fieldfisher.com
If you receive a communication from any email address other than one ending 'fieldfisher.com', this will not be from us and is likely to be fraudulent.
Fraudsters are increasingly sophisticated at impersonating our email
address. Impersonation email addresses
can, at first glance, look indistinguishable from the actual email address of
your Fieldfisher contact. Please always
therefore double check the exact spelling of any email address which looks like
a Fieldfisher email address.
Impersonation email addresses we are aware of which fraudsters have used
in an attempt to pose as Fieldfisher include:
fieldfishers.com; fieldsfisher.com; fieldfisher.cfd; fieldffisher.top; fieldsfisher.top.
- Sending a scam email which appears
be from the fieldfisher.com domain
Even if the email you receive appears to be from the usual email address of your Fieldfisher contact, this is no guarantee that it is a genuine email from us. We are aware that fraudsters can create the appearance of an actual fieldfisher.com email address. The only way to check whether an email is genuinely from Fieldfisher is to place your cursor on the email address and check the domain information.
- Sending you an invoice which purports to be from Fieldfisher
We have been made aware of fraudsters sending our clients fake invoices
with false Fieldfisher payment details, requesting that those clients divert
their payments to new accounts.
We do not intend to change our bank details. If you receive any
communication purporting to be from your Fieldfisher contact and advising you
that our bank details have changed, or if you receive an invoice with account
details which are different from those we have previously provided, please
check with your Fieldfisher contact by telephone, using a previously used and
trusted telephone number. Please check
this before transferring any funds as we do not accept responsibility
for any funds paid into an incorrect bank account.
- Using deep fake technology to mimic the voice of someone you know at
Fieldfisher
With the sophistication of deep fake technology, fraudsters are
increasingly adept at impersonating people. If you receive a telephone call
which appears to be from someone at Fieldfisher and either you weren't
expecting the call, or anything about the voice or the sentence structure
doesn't feel right, end the call and call your Fieldfisher contact back on their
known and trusted Fieldfisher number.
- Setting up a clone website
Whilst we take every possible precaution to mitigate against this risk,
law firms have, for a number of years, been targets for fraudsters setting up
clone websites. The cloning techniques can
be very sophisticated so that a cloned website will typically bear an almost
identical resemblance to the genuine website, but with very subtle differences
in, for example, phone numbers or bank details.
This makes it very difficult to distinguish fake from genuine websites.
The Solicitors Regulation Authority publishes details of cloning activities it
is aware of: SRA
| Scam alerts | Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Precautions you can take in all cases
If you receive any correspondence which appears to be from Fieldfisher,
but which you are not expecting, please call your Fieldfisher contact on their known
and trusted telephone number to check the authenticity of the request.
It’s important that you call us rather than use email or text message to
verify the source of the communication, as we are aware that fraudsters can and
do intercept emails and other electronic communications from you to us.
If an email looks suspicious, it is best not to open it or any
attachment to it before your Fieldfisher contact has confirmed on the telephone
that it is genuine.
If our website looks different in any way, or publishes any telephone
numbers or account numbers which are different from those which your
Fieldfisher contact has previously given to you, please telephone your
Fieldfisher contact on their known and trusted telephone number and/or check
the SRA's scam alert using the above link.
