The deceased worked for the company from approximately 1961 to 1982 as a lagger. He was exposed to asbestos whilst carrying out his work in various sites including Ford Motor Company, Tilbury A Power Station and BP Oil Refinery.
The widow is blind and her husband, before he left for work in the morning, set out breakfast for his wife and then in the evening returned home and cooked the evening meal.
We claimed for compensation to include the cost of care provided by the husband. The widow received a lump sum of £145,000 together with £23,200 each year in periodical payments to pay for the cost of care and case management for life.
This is believed to be one of the first cases in which periodical payments have been awarded to the dependant of a mesothelioma victim.
